Filmmaker + Provocateur
Ciara is developing a slate of documentary films that use both strong characters to challenge the creative and political status quo. Her work includes producing documentary content for film and television, managing and supervising independent features, as well as coordinating product placement for features and television. Currently, she is expanding her repertoire into journalism by creating content for several online publications.
Ciara is proud to announce that this year she is the inaugural recipient of the Sundance Institute's Merata Mita Fellowship as well as a Princess Grace Awards Special Project grantee. She has also been honored as a 2016-2014 Firelight Documentary Lab Fellow, a 2015 Sundance Institute Time Warner Fellow, a 2013 Princess Grace Award Fellow, a 2012 Sundance Institute NativeLab Fellow, and a 2012 IFP Producer of Marketing and Distribution Fellow. Her directorial debut, the feature length documentary OUT OF STATE, premiered this June at the LA Film Festival, and two weeks later won Best Documentary Feature Film at the Cayman International Film Festival. OUT OF STATE is supported by ITVS' Open Call, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, Pacific Islanders in Communication, Tribeca All Access, the Next Step Media Fund, and the Hawaii People's Fund. Ciara holds a BA in psychology from Yale University and is a graduate of the Kamehameha Schools in Hawaii.
